The PPWR is more in line with European goals for a circular economy and indirectly contributes to achieving climate goals.   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-104794e e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"104794e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc70944 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fc70944\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Major goals of the PPWR<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-191105e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"191105e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><strong>Waste Prevention<\/strong>: By 2040, the amount of packaging waste per capita must be reduced by 15% compared to 2018. This is subject to binding reduction targets for each member state. <\/li><li><strong>Reuse and refill<\/strong>: Concrete percentages are imposed for reusable and refillable packaging for various sectors (including hospitality, retail, e-commerce), increasing incrementally between 2030 and 2040.<\/li><li><strong>Recyclability<\/strong>: As of 2030, all packaging must be technically recyclable, according to the criteria in Annex II of the PPWR. From 2035, in addition, packaging must be demonstrably effectively recycled on a large scale. <\/li><li><strong>Recycled material<\/strong>: Plastics are subject to mandatory minimum percentages of recycled content, depending on the type of packaging (e.g., bottles, contact-sensitive plastics, non-food packaging).<\/li><li><strong>Internal Market Harmonization<\/strong>: The PPWR provides uniform rules for design, labeling and reporting in all EU member states, eliminating differences in national legislation and creating a level playing field.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-33781a57 e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"33781a57\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3f3c8de8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"3f3c8de8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ChatGPT-Image-1-okt-2025-22_43_29-e1759351542147.png\" class=\"attachment-2048x2048 size-2048x2048 wp-image-17207\" alt=\"PPWR\" srcset=\"https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ChatGPT-Image-1-okt-2025-22_43_29-e1759351542147.png 1536w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ChatGPT-Image-1-okt-2025-22_43_29-e1759351542147-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ChatGPT-Image-1-okt-2025-22_43_29-e1759351542147-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ChatGPT-Image-1-okt-2025-22_43_29-e1759351542147-768x384.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-282f13e7 e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"282f13e7\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c6b380f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c6b380f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Requirements and measures  <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6478f8ba elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6478f8ba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Recycling<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46689dfa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46689dfa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>All packaging on the European market must be technically recyclable from Jan. 1, 2030.<\/li><li>Packaging can be collected separately in an effective and efficient manner.<\/li><li>Packaging must be capable of being directed to a defined waste stream without compromising the recyclability of other waste streams.<\/li><li>Packaging must be recyclable to the extent that the resulting secondary raw materials are of sufficiently high quality to replace the primary raw material.<\/li><li>Possibility of Large Scale Recycling (from January 1, 2035). Packaging must not only be technically recyclable, but also effectively recycled on a large scale. This means that infrastructure and capacity must also be in place in practice to recycle packaging.  <\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Starting in <strong>2030 <\/strong>, recycled content will go up incrementally. By <strong>2028<\/strong> at the latest, the European Commission will publish the systematics for Recycling Performance Grades (RPGs). These grades indicate the degree to which a packaging can actually be recycled:  <\/p><ul><li>Grade A \u2192 at least 95% recyclable<\/li><li>Grade B \u2192 at least 80% recyclable<\/li><li>Grade C \u2192 at least 70% recyclable<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>RPGs are becoming an important tool to assess the technical and practical recyclability of packaging and to encourage producers to take their packaging to the next level.<\/p><p>Packaging must not contain more than 50% space or air<em>(this includes paper shreds, air cushions, bubble wrap and other padding materials<\/em>).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a32d423 e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"a32d423\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-99aed82 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"99aed82\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Designer-1-e1759354442142.png\" class=\"attachment-2048x2048 size-2048x2048 wp-image-17220\" alt=\"Recycling Performance Grades, PPWR\" srcset=\"https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Designer-1-e1759354442142.png 1536w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Designer-1-e1759354442142-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Designer-1-e1759354442142-1024x525.png 1024w, https:\/\/packit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Designer-1-e1759354442142-768x394.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-36fb749c e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"36fb749c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-26d668ef elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"26d668ef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Labeling<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42d5f7b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42d5f7b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The PPWR requires harmonized labeling across Europe in the future. This obligation is expected from <strong>August 2028.<\/strong> <\/p><ul><li>Uniform pictograms: There will be a harmonized label adopted by the EU (expected to be ready in 2026). This label will show the material composition of the packaging using simple, unambiguous pictograms. This is the core of the new labeling.  <\/li><li>Information on sorting: Labels should also provide information on how consumers should properly dispose of and sort the packaging.<\/li><li>QR code: Reusable packaging must be marked with a QR code or other standardized, open and digital data carrier. This digital medium contains information on reusability, available reuse systems and collection channels. Market participants are free to supplement this digital data carrier with additional information on the packaging or at the point of sale (for example, in text or pictograms), but the presence of the QR code or equivalent digital carrier will become mandatory in 2030.  <\/li><li>Labels for reuse: Reusable packaging will have a separate, standardized label informing consumers that the packaging is intended for reuse. According to the current PPWR schedule, this is expected to become mandatory from February 2029. This applies, for example, to our reusable shoppers.&#8221;  <\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-53472b7a e-con-full sp-s full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"53472b7a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3dbf783f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3dbf783f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">In practice<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5fa6d21e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5fa6d21e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The PPWR is a complex but inevitable transition to a more sustainable economy. The goals are ambitious and not all criteria and definitions have yet been fully developed. In addition, the PPWR is not a static document, but a framework that will be further fleshed out and adjusted in the coming years. For companies, this means that it is important to follow developments closely and respond to new obligations in a timely manner. One way of doing this is by mapping out the current packaging portfolio and testing it against the upcoming requirements, and adapting packaging and processes where necessary.    <\/p><p>Packit follows developments closely.
