Today, we are constantly exposed to all kinds of stimuli. That is why everything can be a bit more understated\u2014this also applies to scents. No perfumes that hang around you like a cloud, but scents that behave like a second skin. Room sprays that no longer scream ‘hygiene’ but blend into the interior. While perfume was used in the past to make a statement or to stand out, there is now a clear preference for lighter scents. Within the perfumery industry, we are seeing the rise of so-called ‘skin scents’. These are scents that blend perfectly with the skin, so they do not overpower but are still noticed. <\/p>

These types of perfumes often contain warm, woody notes such as ambroxan, cedar, white musk, and sandalwood. These are notes that are also increasingly used in laundry perfumes, room sprays, and car perfumes. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The sharp lemon scent we know from old-fashioned all-purpose cleaners is a thing of the past. In 2026, we no longer define ‘clean’ as an assault on the olfactory system, but as an extension of our well-being. Clean smells natural and layered. This means no more 100% lemon scent, but rather a combination with herbs such as basil, rosemary, mint, or ginger. This creates a botanical freshness that is more reminiscent of a luxury spa than a bucket of soapy water. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The heavy, old-fashioned jasmine or rose scents that remind you of your grandmother’s boudoir… those days are over. Modern consumers do not want to be labeled: it is about a universal human freshness. These are natural scents\u2014not just the flower, but the whole plant\u2014as well as neutral scents such as cotton and linen. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

4. Functional scents <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Also popular are so-called ‘functional scents’ (neuroscents). These are scents that not only smell good but also have a specific effect on the brain and human well-being. Scents that keep you sharp (focus) include rosemary, eucalyptus, and cold citrus notes. Scents that provide relaxation include lavender, chamomile, and ‘mineral’ notes. You could easily apply this scent combination in a room spray for the bedroom or in a laundry perfume as a ‘sleep blend’ for bedding. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

5. Grown-up scents <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Scents are tailored to a more refined, mature ‘taste’ with an emphasis on high-quality ingredients, craftsmanship, and complex tones. Instead of being sugary sweet, scents are moving towards a more savory allure. Think of notes like pistachio, roasted hazelnut, steamed rice, and salty vanilla. Delicious scents that stimulate not only the olfactory system but also the taste buds. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
