A great opportunity
Helen joined Packit in 2019, when she was pregnant with her second child. She says: “I previously worked for over 14 years at a Vietnamese holding company specializing in plastic bags. I couldn’t combine the working hours with motherhood, so I had to look for something else. Packit was one of our clients and I started talking to Leen. He then invited me to come and work for Packit. An opportunity I seized with both hands!”
Win-win situation
“I was able to continue working in an environment familiar to me,” Helen continues. “I have years of experience and a good relationship with local suppliers in the packaging sector. I am proud that I can use my knowledge and network for Packit. I bridge language, cultural and time zone differences. This makes communication a lot clearer and contributes to faster turnaround times and a more efficient purchasing process. In addition, I often know exactly what is happening in the factory and I strictly supervise compliance with Western specifications and quality standards.”
Appreciation
On the other hand, Helen notices that as a representative of a Western company, she also receives appreciation and respect from local suppliers. “I translate Western requirements and specifications into clear, local instructions and offer technical support where necessary. In this way, I help suppliers to improve internal quality control systems and to meet international standards. I am happy to see that my work matters to both ‘sides’.”
“My work matters and leads to reciprocity.”
Access to innovative products
What also makes her work enjoyable are the trips to factories. Helen explains: “I now have the opportunity to visit various factories. Looking for new techniques and innovative products, for example. That is super educational and interesting for me personally, and it offers new opportunities for Packit.”
