Small product, big adventure

Interns Rozemarijn and Finn both have international ambitions, and at Packit, they are given the opportunity to realize them. For her Business Administration graduation research, Rozemarijn is diving into the logistics strategy behind the scenes. Finn is fully involved in the procurement department. Together, they are exploring what it means to be part of a large international company.

More than just executing a task

Rozemarijn emphasizes it immediately: interning at Packit is not the same as ticking off a to-do list. “Elsewhere, you have a task and you execute it. Here, you receive an assignment and you can decide for yourself how to approach it. I really appreciate that space and freedom.” Her research focuses on evaluating the current distribution of the distribution centers, a strategic question involving numerous logistical, financial, and geographical factors. This is precisely the kind of challenge she came for. Finn approaches his internship differently: working full-time three days a week in the procurement department. From issuing tenders to suppliers to negotiating prices and maintaining contact with partners abroad. “I wanted to know what it’s like to work in a large company. Now I know. And I like it very much.”

You are never on your own

They receive plenty of independence at Packit, but without being thrown into the deep end. “You are really given the space to take things on yourself,” says Rozemarijn. “But they also ask about your progress and don’t leave you to sink or swim. I never felt like I was on my own.” Finn nods: “I could turn to anyone. That was made clear from day one, and it holds true in practice.”

Informal yet professional

Packit is a large international company with major clients and significant volumes. Yet, it feels anything but anonymous. “Everyone is willing to have a chat, including on a personal level,” says Finn. “It is hard work, but there is also plenty of room for socializing.”
Rozemarijn recognizes this: “The work atmosphere is informal, but the company is professional. You notice that people are committed to their work.” She laughs: “It’s quite different from a side job. There, you just do your work, but here, people are truly dedicated to something. They go for it completely, together for the same goal.” She calls it passion, and it is contagious.

A great challenge

For Rozemarijn, the challenge lies primarily in the scale and dynamics. “What appeals to me is that enormous volumes are involved, that you collaborate with companies all over Europe, and that everything happening in the world has a direct impact on your work. Geopolitical developments can turn the supply chain upside down from one day to the next. Those are challenges, but that is also what makes working here so exciting!” Finn recognizes that feeling: “If a supplier suddenly can no longer maintain an agreed price, you have to think creatively. Being able to pivot quickly makes it fun and challenging.” He started in February by launching a new product with suppliers and saw the process conclude with a concrete result at the end of May. “Seeing the entire process through and actually having an impact is great to see.”

From intern to sparring partner

“We learn a lot, but as a younger generation, we also bring something to the table ourselves,” Rozemarijn adds. “We are used to switching gears quickly, we pick things up fast, and we ask questions from a fresh perspective. No judgment, just a different angle. We are given that space at Packit, and sometimes that is exactly what keeps an organization sharp.”

How the Packit way works

And what does it offer Rozemarijn and Finn? “We now know what it’s like to be part of a professional company,” Finn answers. “You learn how an international organization really works.” Rozemarijn had previously completed a six-month internship at a company in America and was looking for something truly challenging. Packit has surprised her positively. “I have learned more here than expected. Packit is a company where all sorts of things are happening; international, strategic, and with big ambitions. It’s impressive what lies behind a seemingly simple product like foil or a waste bag. My internship may be nearly finished, but there is still much to discover and learn. I would love to stay here even longer.”
